The English Labrador bred are heavier, thicker and blocker. The American Labrador bred are tall and lanky. Labradors are a relatively healthy breed, but they are prone to some hereditary problems such as hip and elbow dyspepsia. They are also at risk of eye problems like cataracts.The average lifespan of a Labrador is 12 - 14 years.

Though bred to be retrieving gun dogs, these qualities also make them excellent companions. There coats is smooth and water-resistant and otter-like tails make them perfect water dogs. Labs require plenty of exercise. They should be taken on 20 – 30 minute walks at least twice, daily. keep in mind that this breed loves to swim, which is also great exercise.

Labradors is a true family dogs, they usually get along well with children and are known to be incredibly loyal, loving and active. Labs are best suited to homes where they can get plenty of exercise, attention and training. Labs are friendly and accepting of other family pets.
